Wiota Lutheran Church
Ministries
Our congregation is very active in a wide array of ministries, all of which play an important part in forming and shaping our Christian identity. Please explore the ministries we offer. Click on each category to learn more about some of the events and groups that make up these ministries. If you have an idea for another new ministry, let's talk! Help us continue to grow and expand our reach throughout the congregation, community, and world!
The ministry of education is very important for us as people of faith. Faith is a journey that involves constant learning, discovery, and encounters with God's presence. Questioning one's faith, or experiencing periods of doubt is natural. It is in asking questions and seeking for answers that we learn more about who we are and who God created us to be. The Bible, our primary book of faith, is full of ancient, sacred stories. Through various educational opportunities, it is our hope that each person will begin to understand themselves as part of God's continuously unfolding story of creation and salvation!
When we talk about "evangelism" in the church, it's a fancy way of describing the work all Christians have in sharing the gospel. The gospel is good news. All people, regardless of who we are or anything we have ever done, are recipients of God's love and forgiveness through Jesus' death on a cross. We are a worshipping community where all are welcome and accepted. Our story as people of God, loved and forgiven by God is an important message to be shared throughout the larger community. God loves you for Christ's sake and will never let you go.
In response to the abundant gifts that God has given us, we are called to give of ourselves. The volunteering of time, professional skills, and financial contributions of each of our members plays an important role, not only in sustaining our congregation but also in helping us strengthen the community in which we live. Each of our active members contribute in a variety of ways.
Our youth have much to learn about the history and traditions of our church, but older generations have just as much (if not more) to learn about our youth and how they encounter God's presence in today's world. Our youth have many unique and important questions. They regularly complete a wide range of outreach, mission, and fundraising projects. They also like to have tons of fun!!!
The Bold Café is a new and upcoming ministry in the congregation. It's a national ELCA initiative that is part of the larger Women of the ELCA and seeks to engage working women. That's just how it began in Wiota. A bunch of actively working women came together one evening to talk about mutual concerns experienced in the working world, at home, and throughout the world. They regularly engage in bible study and other outreach activities.
"As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world."
